New to BC
If you’ve recently moved to BC, there are a number of things that may be unique to the BC market that you should know about to make sure you, your family and your possessions are properly insured.
Rapidly increasing construction costs – over the past decade, construction costs have increased rapidly in the Lower Mainland. This has created problems for property owners who don’t find out that they are underinsured until after they have a claim. In order to ensure you’ve got adequate home coverage, we recommend you Insure to Value, understanding the problems that inadequate coverage can cause you.
Basic auto insurance coverage is provided by ICBC only – unlike many other North American jurisdictions, in BC there is only one provider of basic auto insurance coverage – the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC). Although means that you must buy your basic auto insurance from an ICBC Autoplan broker, you are able to purchase your optional coverages – for example, collision, comprehensive and extended third-party liability coverage – from a number of companies as well as ICBC.
